Digging a Hole

 Describe someone or something digging a hole, who or what are they and why they are digging the hole


There's an old man out in the garden, he has a small spade and is kneeling by a garden plot. He is digging a hole for his granddaughters goldfish, with each spadeful of dirt he reflects on the way things work out in life.

The goldfish was a present for Emmie's 8th birthday, she was so happy as she held the bag up to the sunlight, gold rays glinted off the fish scales shimmering in the light. He had helped her set up the fishbowl, it had shiny blue stones in the bottom, a fake plant, and pirates chest.

Every day she lovingly fed her fish, it started to get fat and everyone thought she must be feeding it too much, but one morning they were surprised by 5 baby fish swimming around chasing each other up and down in the water.

Next thing they knew the tiny fish tank was overgrown with algae and they determined that a tank with filter was needed. A couple hundred dollars later the little fish family was set. Peter and Millie bought a zebra fish and a couple of other generic fish to round out the fish collection and things proceeded as before, Emmie fed the fish every day, happy with her pets.

Then Emmie had gotten sick, at first they had thought it was a cold. She was lethargic and started complaining about her tummy. They thought it would go away
