Outlining

  Beginning:

• Introduce the Main character to your story.
• Set the tone – Is it romance, horror, thriller, fantasy etc?
• Set the scene – where will your story take place?
• Show the Main character's problem or goal.

Start your story midstream, close to a crisis point. This is known as The Hook. Grab your reader’s attention immediately so that they want to know what happens next.

Tone

This is a fantasy novel set in modern times.

I like Dresden Files, the hero is flawed by likable. He's got a sardonic sense of humor and lives alone with his cat. He has the power to "find" people.
